The evening of June 13, 1997, marked one of the most horrific incidents in public life when the fire took over the Uphaar Cinema in South Delhi. The tragic incident in the Cinema Hall that evening claimed 59 innocent lives and left 100 others grievously injured.
Ever since that case a lot has been talked about and written about that incident, but for the very first time ever the incident is to be presented before the world through the camera’s lens which has been inspired by the bestseller book Trial by Fire: The Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy by Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy.
The series will showcase what happened to the victims and how they were forced to fight for justice after the colossal loss they have been through, unfortunately, at present there exist countless other people in similar situations today.
Prashant Nair is behind the camera directing the series, and also serving as the showrunner. The series will star Abhay Deol and Rajshri Deshpande as the lead who will be playing the central characters of Neelam and Shekhar, the real-life couple who lost their two children in the horrific incident and had to fight a long battle for justice.
Trial by Fire, a limited series based on the 1997 Uphaar Cinema fire in Delhi which claimed 59 lives, is the next Indian original series from Netflix. All the episodes will start streaming on January 13, 2023.

‘Trial By Fire’, besides presenting the ordeals of the horrific incident will also showcase the endless trials and tribulations in the pursuit of justice by the victims over the past 24 years and endless stories that followed thereafter.
The Netflix original is produced by Endemol Shine India and House of Talkies, the Netflix show also stars Rajesh Tailang, Ashish Vidyarthi, Anupam Kher, Ratna Pathak, Shilpa Shukla, and Shardul Bharadwaj.
