On 26 November, terrorists attacked many places in Mumbai. The biggest attack was on the Taj Hotel in Mumbai. The terrorists had taken the entire hotel hostage. Many people were trapped in the hotel, so the focus of the army was to get the trapped people out safely. This was not the work of ordinary policemen.
To deal with this extremely dangerous situation, it was decided to run an NSG commando operation. The task of leading this commando operation was entrusted to Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. Major Sandeep made a complete strategy to enter and encircle the Taj.

Sandeep Unnikrishnan: I will see, and he made a strategy after killing many terrorists, but he kept his commandos behind, while he remained ahead. After finding out the whereabouts of the terrorists in the hotel, they started targeting them. There was fierce firing from both sides. Meanwhile, Major Sandeep was also shot, because he was targeting the terrorists going very far ahead, seeing their bravery, the terrorists also lost their sweat. Sandeep was injured in the firing, and blood was flowing from his entire body, but even in such a condition, he rescued about 14 hostages from the clutches of the terrorists.
The situation was that they reached the upper part of the hotel while firing bullets. His force behind was covering him. During this, when his NSG commandos, who were covering, started coming forward, he said... ' Don't come up, I will see all these alone ' ... These were the last words of Sandeep, which were heard by his comrades.
Although by then Sandeep alone had killed many terrorists, bloodied and injured Sandeep Unnikrishnan himself died while neutralizing the terrorists and saving his people. He shed all his blood without caring for his life and his name was written in golden letters in the history of the 26/11 attacks.
Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was an important part of many operations, is remembered not only for the Mumbai attack but also for his bravery in many operations in the country. These operations include Kargil, which had been a part of the most important Operation Vijay, Operation Parakram, Operation Rakshak, Counter-Insurgency, and Operation Black Tornado. It is a matter of pride that Sandeep loved his country so much that if he wanted, he could have become a scientist in ISRO like his father. But he chose the option of serving the country and sacrificed his life for the country.
On 15 March 1977, a brave son of India was born in Bangalore. It was none other than Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, the lone man who fought several terrorists in the 26/11 attack. His father was a scientist in ISRO, but he went to the army. Sandeep Unnikrishnan was a soldier of the Seventh Bihar Regiment.
It is said that when his last journey was being taken out on 29th November, the sky had also become gloomy. In fact, on November 29, there were dark clouds in Bangalore and the weather had become completely gloomy. Newspapers made the heading that not only the earth but also the sky had become sad for the brave soldier of the country.
His last rites were performed with military honours. A street in Bangalore is named after him. His statue has also been installed at a ring road junction of the city. Sandeep was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra by the Government of India.
