Jalandhar Vigilance Bureau (VB) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial located in Kartarpur town of Jalandhar. A total of 26 persons have been accused in the FIR, including senior journalist Ajit editor-in-chief Barjinder Singh Hamdard. A total of 15 arrests have been made including four Sub Division officers (SDO), Rajiv Kumar Arora (retd.), Harpal Singh, Jatinder Arjun and Rajat Gopal.
Vigilance Bureau has registered this case after a long investigation. According to sources, both the arrested SDOs had direct involvement in the scam of the project. Jalandhar Range SSP Vigilance Rajeshwar Sidhu confirmed that a case has been registered, and 15 accused have been arrested out of the 26 accused. Among those accused are two IAS officers, against whom investigation is currently underway.
What is the Jang-e-Azad memorial case?
Vigilance Bureau Jalandhar Range had started investigation regarding this project in March last year. The complaint states that government treasury's funds were misused while making this project.
In the investigation, the Vigilance Bureau is investigating the facts related to how much money was passed during its construction in 2014-2016, how and where the money was used. Besides this, the officials under whose supervision the money was allocated and used were also questioned in detail. But now Vigilance has registered a case and made the arrests.
