In February, the number of telecom subscribers has decreased to 116.60 crore. During this period, the companies which have faced maximum decrease in customers are Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (VI). On Tuesday, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released data about the telephone subscribers in India was around 116.94 million at the end of January 2022, which came down to 116.60 million by the end of February.
The Reliance’s customers have decreased for the 3rd consecutive month in February. It was the 3rd consecutive month that the company lost its mobile subscribers. Reliance’s mobile subscribers are expected to decline by 36.6 lakhs to 40.27 crore.
The Vodafone Idea subscribers have also decreased. They lost around 15.32 lakh mobile subscribers, while the other companies like BSNL and MTNL lost 1.11 lakh and 5,097 connections.
On the other hand, Airtel adds up to 15.91 lakh new customers. According to a recent data, Bharti Airtel has been the only company in the mobile segment which has increased its number of connections. In February, they added 15.91 lakh new customers which made total count around 35.80 crores.
The company Reliance added new customers in the wireline, Reliance Jio added 2.44 lakh new customers to the wireline. These statistics are followed by Bharti Airtel with 91,243 subscriber count, Vodafone Idea with 24,948, Quadrant 18,622 and Tata Teleservices with 3,772.
Taking about BSNL and MTNL, they jointly hold 49.5% stake in the wireline. These two companies lost 49, 074 and 21,900 fixed line customers. The number of broadband subscribers in the country has also marginally decreased to 78.33 million in the month of February and 78.34 million in January.
