‘Removing, imposing NSA is state issue’: Union Minister Ravneet Bittu to meet Amritpal’s family regarding his release

Ravneet Bittu said that he will also raise issues of Punjab in front of the Central government now that he has been appointed Union Minister.

Waris Punjab De chief and Khalistani Amritpal, who is lodged in Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA), has been elected Member Parliament (MP) from Khadoor Sahib. Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu has made a big statement about Amritpal. He said that being a Union Minister, he will meet Amritpal's family and discuss strategy for his release. 

“The people of Punjab and my party have given me a place in the central government so that I can easily put forward the issues of Punjab before the government and get them resolved” This was said by the newly elected Union Minister of State from Punjab Ravneet Singh Bittu in Chandigarh. Regarding Amritpal, Bittu said that NSA has been imposed on the recommendation of the Punjab government, and that the Central Government has no role in it. Imposing or removing the NSA is a state subject. Whatever the appropriate action is, it will be taken accordingly. Bittu said that It is certain that he will meet his [Amritpal’s] parents in the coming days.

It is pertinent to note that yesterday, Ravneet Bittu had made a U-turn on his stance on the release of Bandi Sikhs. Earlier,he was strictly against the pro separatist sentiments. In fact, the Hawara Committee had expressed apprehension that after the inclusion of Ravneet Singh Bittu in the newly formed Union Cabinet, there would be a delay in the release of Bandi Singhs.However, he recently announced that he will not oppose the release of Bandi Sikhs. Bittu said, "I will not be an obstacle in any issue of Punjab. I have joined BJP to solve the problems of Punjab. I want to end the bitterness of Punjabis with the Center. If people want, I will raise the issue of release of Bandi Sikhs.'' He further said that he will put every issue of Punjab before the Center. Now that he is in the central government, he will listen to everyone.
