The case of gangster Lawrence's TV interview from police custody in Punjab was heard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on 3rd December. The court reprimanded the Punjab government in this case. The court questioned the government about not taking action against the then SSP so far.The court also asked how the Punjab Police came to know about the gangster's interview.
The Home Secretary was also involved in the hearing through video conferencing. The court also reprimanded him. He said that if no action is taken next time, a higher official will be summoned. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for December 10.
At the beginning of the hearing, the transcript of the press conference held at the time of the interview was given to the court by the Punjab Police, in which it was told on behalf of the DGP that the interview was not held in the Punjab jail.
The court asked how did you come to know about the interview. After this, the court discussed the second point that what action has been taken against the then SSP. But no satisfactory answer was received. The court asked what was being done to save the accused.
However, the government said that the investigation is going on under the leadership of the retired judge. At the same time, the government said that the officials against whom action have been taken have been removed from public dealing.
Action has been taken against the officers responsible for the interview earlier by the Punjab Police. This includes officers-employees from DSP to head constable rank like DSP Gursher Singh (9th Battalion based in Amritsar), DSP Samar Vaneet, Sub Inspector Reena (posted in CIA Kharar), Sub Inspector Jagatpal Jangu (posted in AGTF), Sub Inspector Shaganjit Singh (AGTF), ASI Mukhtyar Singh and Head Constable Om Prakash. The second interview is being investigated by the Rajasthan Police.
