Asking Indian Express newspaper to cease and desist from reporting unsubstantiated news against Republic TV- a television channel with regard to the alleged TRP scam, a legal notice has been sent.
The Indian Express had published a news on January 25 that was opposed by Republic TV. The Indian Express in their report has mentioned that the editor-in-chief of the channel Arnab Goswami bribed BARC former CEO Partho Dasgupta to rise the TRP of his channel.
The channel in the legal notice sent to The Indian Express said that the campaign was an attempt to tarnish the reputation of Republic TV and it also intends to further Indian Express' interests.
In the legal notice, the channel used the word sensationalism against the report covered by the newspaper. In the notice, the Republic TV through Phoenix Legal has stated, "The very headline of your news report would mislead any reader into wrongly believing that as a matter of fact, payments were made by our client, Mr. Goswami to Mr. Partho Dasgupta. Such a headline is squarely deliberate and mischievous."
The notice further states that the Indian Express didn't mention that statement was extracted by Mumbai police through coercion and duress from former BARC CEO.
As the TRP scam is still being probed, the legal notice sent to Indian Express further states, "You have acted as a judge, jury and executioner in breach of all journalistic ethics and against the well-settled laws. By concealing material facts, pronouncing our client guilty of TRP manipulation, even though the matter is pending investigation and is also subjudice, your assertions amount to criminal contempt of court."
Now, the channel has asked IE to stop publishing alleged defamatory
news about Goswami in the alleged TRP
manipulation scam.
