A retired high court Judge Justice CS Karna was arrested today by the Tamil Nadu police over releasing offensive videos and posts with objectionable comments and threats of sexual violence against judiciary officials and their family members on social media.
Allegedly, Karnan has released the abusive videos after which several lawyers had complained to the Chief Justice of India against him. They were asked to approach the appropriate authorities.
In October, the Cyber Crime Wing of Chennai Police had registered a case against Karnan and the Madras High Court has asked the police to register a case against Karnan.
In 2017, ex-Justice Karnan became the first sitting high court judge to go behind bars. He was then a judge of the Calcutta High Court and was sentenced to six months for contempt of court.

The West Bengal police chief was directed by a seven-judge bench of the Supreme Court, then headed by Chief Justice JS Khehar, to take Karnan into custody. However, he escaped the arrest for weeks and later after a long chase he was tracked down through his mobile phone.
Karnan has also faced several corruption charges throughout his career, though he claimed all those allegations as a target for being a Dalit.
