RJ Malishka’s dance for Olympian Neeraj Chopra sparks major backlash on Twitter, #cringe, #Malishka trends

RedFM team and their Radio Jockey Malishka Mendonsa are facing criticism on the internet for dancing in front of gold medallist Neeraj Chopra and making him ‘uncomfortable’ before an online interview. 

The small footage of the interview was shared by the RJ on Twitter yesterday, which showed RJ with her teammates dancing on 1957 film Naya Daur’s song “Udhe Jab Jab Zulfen Teri”. The camera then shows the Olympian who was connected through a zoom call.

Neeraj Chopra recently scripted history and bagged a gold medal in Javelin through the event in Tokyo Olympics 2020. 

While sharing the video, Malishka wrote, “Ladiesssss..! Yes, I got the hard hitting, deep answers too but, take the first 4 secs before the cam moves to the zoom call to guess who we are dancing for Smiling face with halo… ude jab jab zulfein teri and then tell me I did it for all of….” 

The reaction of the netizens on this video was negatively overwhelming. Many said radio company and RJ were unprofessional and many even slammed as sexist, had gender roles been reversed. Because of this video and angry netizens #cringe and #Malishka has been trending on the micro-blogging website.

One of the netizens expressed her angry and wrote, “Utterly embarrassing. If the genders were reversed, it would be considered sexual harassment. We need to behave better, much better.” Another wrote, “#Malishka's cringe stuff is all over my timeline. Can't take it anymore Nauseated face... I feel sorry for Neeraj Chopra & embarrassed equally.” Third wrote, “Why #Malishka is making our golden boy feel so uncomfortable? Feeling sympathy for the level of torment he had to endure.”

Historian-author Vikram Sampath also raised his voice and tweeted, “If shameless objectification had faced this is how it would look. Kudos to 23-year-old Neeraj Chopra for keeping his sanity intact in the midst of such predators who have zero respect for him, his struggle or his achievements & salivate him as a sex object. Shame media!”
