While the Indian Medical Association (IMA) is observing a 24-hour nationwide strike on August 17, 2024, Rotary Club of Jalandhar Helping Hands on Saturday hold a candle march to seek justice for the victim in Kolkata Rape & Murder case. The candle march in Jalandhar to seek justice for Kolkata Rape & Murder victim started at 6 PM (IST) at Shivani Park, Model Town.  The candle march started from Shivani Park Model Towl to Traffic Lights (I Love Jalandhar) and then back to Shivani Park.

Rotary Club of Jalandhar Helping Hands called the victim 'Nirbhaya of Kolkata' (Kolkata Ki Nirbhaya). Furthermore, the organization highlighted how the government's initiative of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' is failing in today's time. The organization gave a hard-hitting slogan- "Beti Padhao Beti Bachao, Beti Padhi Par Bachi Nahi" (Stop Cime Against Women). Members who were responsible for organizing the candle march in Jalandhar are- Dr. Ruchi Singh Gaur, Rajesh Bahri, Gagan Luthra, Sonam Rana, Anu Bahri, Dr. Abhilaksh, and Dr. Ankur Hasti. 

For the unversed, nationwide outrage and protest is taking place due to the heinous crime that took place on August 9, 2024.  A 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The matter is now being investigated by the CBI after Calcutta High Court transferred the case from Kolkata Police which came under West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
