The recent meeting of foreign ministers of the member nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Goa witnessed a sharp exchange between Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Mr Jaishankar accused Mr Bhutto Zardari of being the "promoter, justifier and spokesperson of a terrorism industry". He further stated that victims of terrorism do not sit together with its perpetrators to discuss terrorism. The two foreign ministers did not hold a bilateral meeting at the SCO meeting.

Responding to Mr Jaishankar's comments, Mr Bhutto Zardari said that Pakistan is committed to peace in the region and wants to resolve all issues with India through dialogue. He added that Pakistan has made numerous sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
Mr Jaishankar's comments come on the same day that five Indian Army soldiers were killed in action during an operation to find terrorists hiding in a forest near Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch. The terrorists, suspected to be Pakistanis, had ambushed an army truck last week, killing five other soldiers.
