The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann to immediately withdraw his statement asking the union government to allot land to the State for establishment of its own Vidhan Sabha and high court.

In a statement here, former minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said it was shocking that the chief minister was surrendering the rights of Punjab by raising a senseless demand. “Punjab already has its own Vidhan Sabha and high court. There is no need for the chief minister to surrender these institutions. The SAD requests the chief minister to withdraw his tweet urging the union home minister to allot land for these two institutions “.

Dr Daljit Cheema said it was also shocking that the. chief minister had not registered his strong disapproval against the union government’s decision to allot land to Haryana for establishment of its Vidhan Sabha. “The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also failed to clarify to the union government that Chandigarh is an inalienable part of Punjab and no land can be given.to Haryana to establish a Vidhan Sabha building in the union territory’s jurisdiction. The AAP government should immediately review its stand and make it clear to the centre that the present status of Chandigarh is a temporary arrangement until and unless it is transferred to Punjab.
