Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) senior leader Daljit Cheema denied the ongoing reports saying that the party in its recently-held core committee meeting has decided to re-alliance with the BJP for the upcoming 2024 General Elections. Speaking exclusively to True Scoop News, Daljit Singh Cheema called multiple reports fake and stated that no discussion or decision of alliance with the BJP has been taken. Earlier, it was reported that SAD Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and BJP High Command have come to a consensus on an alliance and this was discussed in the core committee meeting of the Shiromani Akali Dal in Chandigarh.
Notably, senior leader Sunil Jakhar who was recently appointed as the President of the BJP of its Punjab unit reacted to the reports. In one of his latest interviews, Jakhar did not refuse that BJP is not looking to alliance with SAD, but he stated that if such things happen his job would be to ensure that the saffron party negotiates with a position of strength, not weakness. “Late Akali Dal patriarch Parkash Singh Badal had very good relations with Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and would often urge the BJP to leave the rural assembly segments for the Akali Dal to contest. The result is there for all of us to see," said Sunil Jakhar.
