Even as he posed for photographs, visitors at the ashram were taken aback, “I am so privileged (sic) to come here I absolutely love it its a great honour will never forget this place ever 1st time on the charka was fun amazing lots of Respect God Bless Gandhiji’s soul the father of the nation hope to visit again when I come back to learn more…”

According to a representative from the Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust (SAPMT), which now manages the ashram, the actor's PR contacted the ashram yesterday night to confirm a visit. "We alerted his agency yesterday night that he is scheduled to visit on Monday morning following, and that there would be specific restrictions that must be followed in the ashram, such as he cannot advertise his film." They easily consented and assured us that this is purely a private visit. The entire tour took approximately 12-15 minutes, and he was blown away by the ashram and astounded that we had kept Gandhi's home in such good condition. It was his first visit, and he expressed desire to actually visit again.”

The Sabarmati ashram has been in the headlines as a result of the Gujarat government's and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's centrally sponsored Rs 1200 crore redevelopment project.
