Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday greeted women on the occasion of International Women’s Day and urged people to take a resolution to promote gender equality. He said that India takes pride in the many accomplishments of the women of the country.
Taking to his official handle, the Prime Minister wrote, "Saluting our indomitable Nari Shakti on International Women's Day." Narendra Modi also said that it is the government's honour to be getting an opportunity to work towards furthering women empowerment across a wide range of sectors.

President Ramnath Kovind also extended his wishings for women on this occasion and appealed to all the countrymen to work relentlessly towards women’s safety, education and independence. He said women of the country are setting new records and achievements in various fields. “Let us collectively resolve to promote gender justice and eliminate inequality between women and men,” he tweeted.
Besides PM Modi, President, many leaders including Union minister Prakash Javadekar, CM Arvind Kejriwal, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, CM Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi and many others also extended their Women's Day wishes via Twitter.

Every year, International Women's Day is observed on March 8 to create awareness about women's issues. It was first celebrated in a handful of countries in 1911 but began to be observed by countries across the globe after 1975 when the United Nations started celebrating the day. The UN officially recognised Women's Day in 1977.
