University Institute of Law, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Khiala, Jalandhar organised a webinar in association with District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar on “Human Rights of Labourers: Indian Scenario” to celebrate Labour Day. The Chief Guest and Key Note Speaker of the event was Dr Gagandeep Kaur Chief Judicial Magistrate Cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority.
Dr Gagandeep Kaur made the students, other participants from different academic institutions, and practising lawyers aware about various schemes run by Legal Services Authority. Further, she gave information about the objective of DLSA that is to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society and to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities, and to organize Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes.
Second speaker of the webinar Mr Suteekshan Samrol, Advocate, Distt. Courts Jalandhar, highlighted the various provisions regarding Rights of Labourers under the Indian Legal System. Both the Speakers emphasised on the need to make labourers aware about their rights.They further asserted that students can contribute a lot in this mission.
Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar Vice Chancellor of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Khiala, Jalandhar welcomed the guests and also made the participants aware about the significance of celebration of Labour Day.
Dr Seema Garg, Dean, University Institute of Law assured that such events will be conducted in future also for the upliftment of knowledge of students. The Webinar was organised & well coordinated by Ms Manjot Kaur and Ms Navneet Kaur, both Assistant Professors, University Institute of Law.
