A mini school bus running on Sutlej River bridge, on the border of Ludhiana and Jalandhar in Punjab suddenly burst into flames. According to reports, the driver was taking the bus from Indore to Srinagar after getting modifications for the bus. After the fire, the driver and his companion jumped off the bus just in time to save their life. The driver went to the toll plaza and informed the fire brigade. By the time the fire was extinguished, the bus was completely immolated.
According to reports, the new bus was travelling from Madhya Pradesh to Srinagar and suddenly caught fire on the Sutlej river bridge. Traffic came to a standstill due to the fire and long queues of vehicles were formed. Upon being notified of the fire, the police of Ladowal and Phillaur called the fire brigade on the spot and immediately brought the fire under control and resumed the traffic flow.
The cause of the fire is being speculated to be a short circuit. The bus driver and his companion were reportedly returning from Indore after making some modifications to the bus. Investigation reveals that the wiring and bearings of the bus lit aflame due to sparks from overheating.
ASI of Phillaur police station, Vijay Kumar said that the driver of the bus, Arvind Ahirwar, was going to Sri Nagar from Madhya Pradesh in a new Bus with his partner when the bus suddenly caught fire on the Sutlej Bridge. He said that both the driver and assistant of the bus are fine. No casualties were reported.
