Extended winter vacation in Dehradun schools
In response to the worsening cold, dense fog, and continuous rainfall, the Dehradun district administration in Uttarakhand has announced a winter break for all the government, non-government, and private schools up to class 12, and Anganwadi centers. The holidays will remain in effect from December 28, 2024, to January 4, 2025.
District Magistrate Savin Bansal has instructed the Chief Educational Officer and District Program Officer to strictly enforce this order across all educational institutions. Schools violating these orders will face stringent action. Additionally, schools in Dehradun will remain closed on January 5, 12, 19, and 26 due to Sundays. Special holidays have also been announced for January 14 (Makar Sankranti) and January 17 (Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Jayanti)
Winter vacations are announced in other states.
- Haryana and Delhi: both states will observe winter holidays from January 1 to January 15, applicable to all government and private schools.
- Madhya Pradesh: schools will remain closed from December 31, 2024, to January 4, 2025. With January 5 being a Sunday, schools will resume, regular operations on Monday, January 6.
- Rajasthan: winter vacations will last until January 5 for both governments and private schools will invite strict penalties.
- Jharkhand: Government schools in Jharkhand will remain closed until January 5, 2025. Since January 5 is a Sunday, schools will reopen on January 6.
Extended school closures in Jammu and Kashmir
In Jammu and Kashmir, the Education Department has declared extended winter vacations due to persistent rain and heavy snowfall. For students up to class 5, holidays began on December 10, 2024, and will continue until February 28, 2025. For students in classes 6 to 12, vacations started on December 6, 2024, and will also last until February 28, 2025.
