Two militants have been killed in a fierce encounter by the Indian security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) being conducted in the central Kashmir district of Badgam on an early Wednesday morning as reported by a police spokesman.
The Cordon And Search Operation was launched by the troops of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF in Chadoora area of the Badgam district early this morning following a tip off about the presence of militants, he said.
The security forces came under heavy fire from militants while moving towards a particular area and a full retaliation was ensured by the security forces in that encounter.
Two militants have been killed in the encounter and large number of arms and ammunition were recovered. The identity of the militants was being ascertained, he said.
Additional security forces have been deployed in the nearby areas to prevent any demonstrations.
Meanwhile, citizens are requested not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.
