Shubham Kumar, who topped the civil services exam said that his dream of becoming an IAS officer and serving the underprivileged has come true.
Mr Kumar said that he would focus on village development, job creation, and poverty alleviation in rural areas of the country.
In his third attempt, the 24 year old, topped the civil services examination.
After clearing the civil services examination in 2019, he was selected for the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS). Mr Kumar was unable to qualify for the 2018 examination on his first attempt.
Shubham Kumar graduated from IIT Bombay with a Bachelor of Technology (civil engineering) and qualified for the 2020 examination with anthropology as his optional subject.
Hailing from Katihar in Bihar, Mr Kumar is currently enrolled at the National Academy of Defence Financial Management (NADFM) in Pune for training.
"My dream was to get into the IAS as it gives a wider platform to work for the betterment of the people. It has been realised and I would like to work for the underprivileged people, especially in rural areas," Mr Kumar said.

He further added that while in service, he will focus on poverty alleviation and the development of villages and their people.
"There are several areas in which we can all strive to improve the lives of the poor and bring positive change," he remarked.
Mr Kumar said he had a ton of support in preparation for the exam from his father and the academy, particularly its director. His elder sister works as a scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
"My father used to push me a lot and helped me keep a positive mindset, which helped me pass the exam," Mr Kumar said.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on September 24 declared the results of exams held in 2020. A total of 761 candidates have been recommended by the Union Public Service Commission for appointment in the bureaucracy of the country.
