A man who was granted bail in a sexual harassment case allegedly shot dead the victims’ father on Monday in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. Gaurav Sharma, the accused was jailed in 2018 in connection with a molestation case and the girl's father had filed a case against Gaurav.
However, Gaurav was granted bail within a month of his arrest.
On Monday afternoon, an argument broke out between the accused’s family and that of the victim during which Gaurav fired several rounds at the father of the girl. He died on the way to the hospital, said Hathras police.
Hathras Police chief Vineet Jaiswal said that the families of the girl and Gaurav were hostile to each other. "The wife and aunt of the main accused had gone to a village temple to pray, where both daughters of this man were present. The women argued. Gaurav and the woman's father intervened. After this, Gaurav flew into a rage and called some boys from his family and shot at the man," Jaiswal said.
The incident was reported from Naujarpur village of Sasni police station area of Hathras. The victim said first he molested me and now has killed my father, the girl pleaded for justice outside the police station.
A case against 4 people including Gaurav has been registered. The accused immediately fled from the scene, while Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to take stern action in the case. He has also commanded to invoke the National Security Act against all the accused connected in the case.
