The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has firmly objected to Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency. It claims the image of Sikhs in the film presents a distorted version of history. The committee has demanded a ban on the film in Punjab upon its scheduled release on 17th January 2025.

In this regard, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as well. The letter states that if the film is released, it will incite anger and resentment within the entire Sikh community.

Therefore, the SGPC urges the government to take responsibility and impose a ban on the film in Punjab. The SGPC has also warned that it will strongly oppose the film if it gets released.

Additionally, letters have been also sent to all Deputy Commissioners in Punjab requesting them to take necessary steps regarding the matter.

Previously, Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi had asserted that Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency should not be released without prior approval from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

He emphasised that the SGPC, as the representative body of the Sikh community, must first review and approve the film's portrayal of Sikh history.

"Kangana Ranaut's film should accurately depict Sikh history, and the SGPC should have the final say. Without their permission, the film will neither be released nor allowed to be released," he stated.
