After the demise of Goa CM Manohar Parrikar, there was a state of turmoil in the state politics with Congress staking claims to form government but BJP Supremo Amit Shah and senior leader Nitin Gadkari managed the negotiations well and BJP leader Pramod Sawant, at 2 am, sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Goa.
The inside reports suggest that the supporting parties Goa Forward Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and three independent legislators were quite rigid to support a BJP candidate for the position of Chief Minister to which Nitin Gadkari warned them of a dissolved assembly and re-elections in the Goa State Assembly.
That was where the discussion came to a conclusion where the BJP and its allied partners came to decide Pramod Sawant as the CM of Goa.
“Whatever I am today is all due to Manohar Parrikar. It was he who brought me to politics. I became the Speaker and the CM today, due to him,” said Sawant after swearing in as Chief Minister.

The swearing in ceremony was supposed to be organized at 11 pm on Monday night but due to the delayed decision, it could be carried out at 2 am.
The Congress leaders were also staking their claims to form government having one more seat than BJP in the state assembly.
This was crucial for BJP as the loss of state would've directly impacted their Lok Sabha campaigns.
