JNU research scholar Sharjeel Imam has accepted to the Delhi Police that the viral video of his speech given on the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus is genuine.
He said he made the controversial remark of cutting the Silliguri Corridor, also known as the Chicken's Neck, in the heat of the moment.
He has asserted that the video clip doing the rounds on social media doesn't contain his full speech. He has been booked for sedition after the video went viral on social media.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch and special cell officers believe that Sharjeel Imam didn't give the speech in the heat of the moment -- rather, it was part of a well-planned strategy.
Sharjeel Imam made the comments during an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest at the AMU. He was later arrested from Jehanabad in Bihar. He had gone to Phulwarisharif near Patna to take part in another anti-CAA/NRC protest. He went underground from Patna, where he came to know about the sedition charges in the FIR registered against him in connection with his AMU speech.
He had gone to his parental village, Kako in Jehanabad, from where he was arrested by a joint team from the Bihar and Delhi police forces.
