Shashi Tharror and Rajdeep Sardesai have approached Supreme Court against multiple FIRs registered against them in various police stations across states for allegedly tweeting about unsubstantial news about the death of a Sikh youth during tractor parade on Republic day, January 26.
Tharoor, a leader of Congress party and Member of Parliament is facing multiple FIRs, according to a report of the NDTV in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Similarly, Rajdeep Sardesai, a journalist with India Today is facing multiple FIRs.
The journalists named in the FIRs are Mrinal Pande, Vinod Jose of The Caravan, Zafar Agha, Paresh Nath, Anant Nath and Rajdeep Sardesai.
Meanwhile, the Editors Guild have condemned the FIRs registered in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh against the journalists. The Guild has condemned the “intimidating manner in which the Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Police have registered FIRs against senior editors and journalists (including current and former office-bearers of EGI).”
Senior Consulting Editor of National Herald- Mrinal Pande; Editor of Qaumi- Awaz Zafar Agha; Managing Founding Editor of The Caravan- Paresh Nath and Treasurer of the Editor's Guild- Anant Nath have also approached the apex court against the FIRs.
As per reports, one FIR was filed in Noida while four
FIRs are filed in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Hosangabad, Multai and Betul.
