In a major twist in the Sheena Bora murder case, former media executive Indrani Mukerjea who is on trial for the alleged murder of her daughter Sheena Bora has submitted a letter to the
CBI saying that a fellow inmate told her that she had seen Sheena alive in Kashmir.
49-year-old Mukerjea is on trial for allegedly killing her daughter from her first marriage, Sheena (25) on April 24, 2012. She was arrested on August 25, 2015, by Khar police and has been
detained at the Byculla Jail since September 2015.
Peter Mukerjea, her ex-husband and former CEO of Star India, and Sanjeev Khanna are co-accused in the case. Last year, Peter was granted bail.
According to the letter sent directly to the CBI, Indrani Mukherjea claims she met a woman prisoner who told her she had met Sheena Bora in Kashmir. "She wrote to the CBI, but we don't
know what she wrote," Sana Khan, her lawyer, said.
Sana Ranees Khan, Indrani's lawyer, confirmed that the letter was sent from the Byculla women's jail. On December 28, Khan plans to file a formal application at the trial court.
Despite the fact that a hearing was held on Wednesday, no submission was presented to the court.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Mukerjea was not physically present for the hearing.
What is Sheena Bora murder case?
Indrani Mukherjea was arrested in 2015 for the murder of her 25-year-old daughter Sheena Bora. Her husband Peter Mukerjea was arrested three months later on charges of helping Indrani.
Sheena Bora was allegedly murdered by Indrani Mukerjea, who was assisted by her driver Shyamvar Rai and her second husband Sanjeev Khanna, according to investigators. According to police,
Indrani killed Sheena because she was angry about her relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea's son from a previous
marriage.
Indrani told people after the murder that Sheena had moved to the United States.
When Indrani Mukherjee's driver was arrested in a different case, the murder became known. Sheena's half-burnt body was dug up from a forest near Mumbai on the driver's statement.
Indrani and Peter Mukherjea broke their 17-year relationship while still in prison, and were granted a divorce in 2019.
