In a big jolt to Sheetal Angural, Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawa on Monday accepted his resignation as an MLA of Jalandhar West. Following that, Sheetal Angural while talking to the media stated that he would approach the Punjab & Haryana High Court to challenge the decision. Earlier today, Sheetal Angural had reached to meet the Speaker at around 11:30 am. However, the Speaker was not present in the Assembly, so the MLA had to return after waiting for some time. He had come to present his side before the Speaker.

While returning, Sheetal Angural interacted with the media saying, "I had reached to meet the Speaker, but he is not present in the Assembly. I have come after meeting his secretary. The Speaker is currently in Delhi, due to which he could not meet. Now, I have been called again on June 11 at 11 am. I have submitted the letter of withdrawal of resignation to the Secretary, and have taken the receipt."

"I wanted that by-elections should have been held along with the Lok Sabha elections, as has happened in Himachal. I resigned 69 days before the elections, but it has not been accepted yet. It was their wish. It was my democratic right to withdraw the resignation, which I used," added Angural.

On being asked whether Sheetal Angural is leaving the BJP which he joined a few months back, he said, "I will not give any answer to this. If the Speaker takes any action, I will approach the court."

Before this, Sheetal sent a letter to the Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Sandhwan to withdraw his resignation filed on March 28, 2024. The resignation filed by MLA Angural on March 28 was still pending with the Speaker. Angural in his letter said that if his resignation is accepted, re-elections would have to be held in the Jalandhar West constituency, which would have also increased the election expenses of the government. This is the reason, why he is withdrawing his resignation.
