New Delhi: In the midst of controversy triggered by tweets from activist Shehla Rashid on alleged 'torture' of civilians in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP leader and Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday demanded 'sedition' charge should be initiated against her as such missives only seem to play in the hands of Pakistan.

"Sedition case should be registered against them....and strongest possible action should be taken against them (Shehla Rashid and others)," Mr. Sarma told reporters here.

"People of Jammu and Kashmir are total with the Government of India and they are supporting the move for long term peace and stability," he said.

"But this Tukde Tukde gang. The Left and secular people like Shehla Rashid are spreading rumors," he said.

"I think the time has come to take strongest possible action against these people because they are dancing to the tune of Pakistan," he said there is no difference between the tweets of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and these people.

BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Kavinder Gupta also has demanded the filing of FIR against those who are indulging in spreading rumor and circulating fake news at a time when efforts are on to bring normalcy and maintain calm in Jammu and Kashmir.

Assam Finance Minister Mr. Sarma is in Delhi to join at the foundation laying ceremony of Karbi Bhawan and Dimasa Bhawan in the capital.

The foundation stones were laid by Home Minister Amit Shah.

"The 146 cr projects shall bolster Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and North Cachar Autonomous Hill Council presence in the national capital," Mr. Sarma said.

Defense sources have denied the allegation from activist Shehla Rashid.
