Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has had enough of 'Melodi Memes' on the internet. Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday took to her official X handle and slammed meme makes of 'Melodi' by saying that it reflects India's poor humor level. Chaturvedi wrote, "This PM Giorgia Meloni and PM Modi memes have gone too far, they are absolutely cringe and also poor reflection of the level of humour that prevails in India. Just saying." For the unversed, social media is filled with Melodi memes. Melodi is an acronym given by netizens which means Meloni & Modi- Melodi.
Melodi Memes often depict PM Modi's admiration for Italian PM Giorgia Meloni. Notably, some memes go too far and even make jokes that PM Modi and PM Giorgia Meloni like each other. Interestingly, Melodi trend intensified in December 2023 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni along the sidelines of the COP28 summit in Dubai. After their meeting, Meloni took to her X handle and shared a happy selfie with PM Modi. But, what caught everyone's attention was the hashtag that Meloni used. The Italian PM used the hashtag 'Meloni'. As a result, meme makers went berserk, and 'Meloni' became a trending topic in India.
Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi arrived in Italy late Thursday night (local time) to attend the 50th G7 Summit, which is being held from June 13 to 15. This is Modi's first visit to a foreign country after recently assuming office as the PM for the third consecutive term following the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA's victory in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
PM Modi is participating in the G7 outreach session in Italy's Apulia region at the invitation of Italian PM Giorgia Meloni. The summit is being held at the resort of Fasano and is dominated by the Russia-Ukraine war and Israel-Hamas war talks. In addition to India, the leaders of Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, Kenya, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Tunisia, and Turkey have been invited to the outreach session.
