Tensions prevailed in Punjab after Shiv Sena leader named Sudhir Kumar Suri was shot at around 3:30 pm near Gopal Mandir on Friday. Suri was shot while the leader was protesting against the sacrilege of Hindu gods and goddesses. Reportedly, Sudhir Kumar Suri was on the hit list of Pro-Khalistan elements for the past few months. Notably, the police have arrested the suspect, who has been identified as Sandeep Sunny. After the shocking incident, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav addressed the media and provide details of the incident.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that the shooter's name is Sandeep Sunny and he ran a garment shop near Gopal Mandir which was also the protest site for the Shiv Sena leader. Furthermore, Gaurav Yadav was asked whether the shooter was pissed at the protestors and asked them to stop their protest as he was not able to open his shop. Punjab DGP answered that the matter is currently under investigation and he is not ruling out any angle as of now. Notably, Gaurav Yadav was also asked whether the links of Amritpal Singh, Waris Punjab De Chief in the matter as his poster was allegedly found on a vehicle of the accused. Punjab DGP reiterated that he is not ruling out any angle, however, won't comment on this till the investigation completes.
Shiv Sena leader murder case in a nutshell
On Friday, Sudhir Kumar Suri, the Shiv Sena leader was shot at around 3:30 pm near Gopal Mandir on Friday. Sudhir Kumar Suri was on the hit list of Pro-Khalistan elements for the past few months. Reportedly, the accused shot 2 bullets at Sudhir while he was in the dharna. His supporters were also present there when the incident took place. Explaining the incident, witnesses told that as he was on a protest, someone suddenly fired on him after which he was taken to the Escort Hospital by his security personnel. Police reveal that some unidentified youths came near Gopal Mandi, and opened fire on Sudhir Kumar Suri. Soon after this, he was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.
