Multi-award-winning playback singer Shreya Ghoshal is, without doubt, not only one of the most popular voices in Bollywood but also one of the most talented singers in the industry. One of the highest-paid and well-established playback singers of Hindi cinema, she has received four National Film Awards, four Kerala State Film Awards, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, seven Filmfare Awards and ten Filmfare Awards South.
When she reached sixteen, she was noticed by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's mother after she won the television singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma. Ace film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, during the time of ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, had a bad experience with singer Alka Yagnik.
Bhansali’s production was short of cash. Alka Yagnik refused to sing until she was paid in advance. ‘Paise nahin toh gana nahin,’ said Alka. After the cash was paid to her then she sang the song, ‘Chand Chupa Baadal Mein’ with Udit Narayan. This led to the end of Alka in Bhansali’s cinema. She was supposed to sing all songs in the movie but ended up singing one.
During his next project, Bhansali made his mind to bring a voice that can replace Alka Yagnik. Bhansali's mother was watching the show and during Ghoshal's performance, she called him to watch her performance, after which he decided to give her a chance in his next film.
This is when he met Shreya and the rest is history. Here are some of the best songs of Shreya and Bhansali’s union.
1. Jab Saiyaan
2. Bairi Piya
3. Deewani Mastani
4. Ghoomar
5. Dola Re Dola
