Shubhkaran Singh, the young farmer killed on February 21 at the Khanauri border incident, has not yet been laid to rest as neither his postmortem, nor his last have been done six days after his death. Farmer leaders and the administration have met several times in the days since. Now the farmers have started protesting regarding not conducting Shubhkaran’s postmortem for an indefinite period until their demands for an FIR are met.
According to reports, farmer leader Kaka Singh Kotra, who is handling the farmers’ front at Khanauri border, has again talked to the police administration. The farmers are adamant on their point that Punjab Police should register a FIR regarding the death of Shubhakaran. At the same time, farmers are now also angry with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Kaka Singh Kotra says that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had talked about giving Rs 1 crore on the death of Shubhakaran and giving a job to his younger sister along with taking appropriate action against the accused. Even if CM Bhagwant Mann had not given Rs 1 crore, social service organizations of Punjab would have collected it. But the promise to take action against the guilty has not been fulfilled yet.
The police administration claims that on February 21, the bullet was fired within the limits of Haryana and Shubhakaran was also shot within the limits of Haryana. In such a situation, only Haryana Police can take action. At the same time, the police fear that if the Punjab Police decides to register an FIR, the Haryana Police will also retaliate with a move of their own.
Haryana police can also claim that the farmers are sitting within their limits. The Haryana government, which is embroiled in controversies due to the incident of February 21, is also ready to take action. On February 22 itself, the Haryana government had revealed it’s information inn which it was written that the Punjab border starts 599 feet ahead of the barricading done by the Haryana Police. Hence, whatever action the Haryana Police took, it was within its limits.
