Political background

Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu had developed differences. Owing to these, the latter had left his post as the minister.

Though he was deputed a local minister, and was later offered Power ministry, but he chose to decline the offer.

Speculations of Sidhu’s return

There have always been speculations that Sidhu will return to the political scene.

Now, we have tangible base to form an opinion as to what Sidhu might be up to.

The sacrilege

On Monday, Sidhu challenged the Captain government as to why no action was made on the pertinent issue of sacrilege. Sidhu questions that senior family members of Badal family ought to be behind bars, but why are they not.

Drugs

Making noise about the sacrilege incident yesterday, Sidhu today questioned Captain Amarinder Singh regarding the inaction or evasion regarding the menace of drugs which has been eating away at the roots of Punjab from a long time.

It is pertinent to note that drugs were a major issue when the last Vidhan Sabha elections were contested and Captain Amarinder Singh had promised tangible and long-lasting action regarding the plague of drugs in Punjab.

Significance SIT Chief Harpreet

Currently the SIT Chief is on study leave to USA.

Sidhu has exhorted the authorities to make his report on the drug menace public. Sidhu claims that big names will be dropped in the report, including Akali leaders and bureaucrats – the ‘black  sheep’.

What are Sidhu’s plans?

Considering the actions of Sidhu, his indications are clear. It is the estimate of political experts that Sidhu will not play on Captain’s pitch.
