The political atmosphere is heating up in the run up to Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Amidst the constant shifting of parties, now rumours are gaining traction that late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s father, Balkaur Singh, will be contesting the elections from Bathinda constituency. Not only this, he is likely to contest the election without the backing of a political party. This is likely to result in a colossal 6-way battle for the Bathinda Lok Sabha Seat, posing further threat to the Akali's supremacy.
Why Balkaur Singh is likely to contest elections?
Sources say that after the murder of Moosewala, he has no faith in any party, hence he is going to contest the elections independently. However, Moosewala's father has not yet given any official confirmation regarding this matter. According to sources, Moosewala's father Balkaur Singh has started preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. His son, Shubhdeep Singh a.k.a Sidhu Moosewala, had contested the elections from Mansa constituency but had lost.
It is pertinent to note that if he contests the elections from Bathinda, it is likely to result in a tight 6-way battle for the parliamentary seat. With Akali Dal and BJP contesting separately and Congress fielding a prominent face in Bathinda, there are currently 5 strong contendors for the LS seat. These include Gurmeet Singh Khudian for AAP, Lakha Sidhana for SAD (Amritsar), Jeet Mohinder Singh for Congress, Harsimrat Kaur Badal for SAD and Parampal Kaur Sidhu for BJP.
Akali Dal has been dominating the Bathinda seat for a long time and is looking to retain its dominance fielding the sitting MP Harsimrat Badal again. The polls in Punjab will take place during the 7th phase of Lok Sabha Elections on June 1.
