A man was brutally murdered on the Delhi-Singhu border. On Friday morning, his body was discovered near the main stage of protesting farmers, with a chopped hand.
The young man's body was found tied to an overturned police barricade at the farmers' protest site with his left wrist chopped and a pool of blood on the ground.
According to initial reports, the murder took place in Kundli, Haryana's Sonipat district, by Nihangs, a 'warrior' Sikh group.
They allegedly beat him to death, then hung his body on a police barricade and severed his wrist. The 35 year old man was accused of allegedly desecrating the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikhs'
holy book, according to reports.
The event has already enraged the farmers, who initially refused to allow the police to visit there. The body was later allowed to be taken to a nearby civil hospital by officials from the
Kundli police station.
The police have yet to comment on the heinous crime.
Farmers have been protesting the centre's new farm rules at Singhu (on the Delhi border) for over a year and multiple farmer camps have been built up on the border in recent months.
ML Khattar, the Chief Minister of Haryana, was scheduled to visit Sonipat this week for a public event.
Mr Khattar withdrew and sent a replacement following repeated protests by farmers, who have made it clear that they will oppose any public appearance by any member of the ruling BJP.
