In what is called a major security lapse, a slipper was thrown at PM Modi's bulletproof car when he was on his visit to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday visited his parliamentary constituency Varanasi and Kashi. During his Varanasi visit, PM Modi surprisingly reviewed the progress at the Dr. Sampurnanand Sports Stadium in Kashi. It was a surprise visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, on June 19, a chappal (Slipper) was also thrown at PM Modi's convoy. PM Modi was present inside the car when a slipper was hurled on his car.
In the viral video, it can be seen people chanting Modi Modi. On the other hand, a person filming the video can be heard saying 'someday threw a chappal'. Notably, a security personnel of the SPG jumped onto the car's bonnet and removed the slipper that was hurled onto his car.
Notably, PM Narender Modi won the Lok Sabha seat with a small margin of 1,52,513, settling at a total of 6,12,940, contesting against state Congress chief Ajay Rai. According to the election commission’s data, this margin has only narrowed from the last two elections in 2019 and 2014. In 2019, PM Modi won the Lok Sabha Elections by a margin of 4,79,505 votes (45.2%) while in 2014, he won by a margin of 3,71,784 votes (36.14 %).
A day after his Kashi visit, PM Modi headed to Rajgir, Bihar to inaugurate the newly built Nalanda University. The Prime Minister also visited the Nalanda University Ruins which is a tourist place in the region.
