Srinagar: On Wednesday, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar and its adjoining areas turned white following fresh snowfall. The night temperature had recorded about four degree improvement, though the day become chilly.
A cloudy morning here was followed by snowfall when the people were resuming their normal daily activities in the city where roads have become slippery.
The Met department has issued a forecast for light snow in Srinagar with further drop in the maximum temperature today. However, there will be some improvement tomorrow followed by heavy spell of snow from January 18 to 21.
Roof, vehicle and tree tops besides open fields and roads had turned white due to fresh snowfall for the past about an hour and it was still snowing. Roads have become slippery affecting traffic movement. A large number of local and outside tourists could be seen enjoying snowfall on the bank of Dal Lake, taking photographs and selfies.
Though the educational institutions remained closed due to winter vacation, hundreds of students were seen going to tuition and coaching centres in the city, including uptown, where majority areas, including Azadbasti, Budshah Nagar and adjoining areas are plunged into darkness since late last night due to power failure.
Also, people alleged that since there is no checking, the three-wheelers are charging exorbitant rates.
