Nowadays, almost everyone is on social media, and day by day the number of users of social media is also increasing. This has given rise to tremendous fake accounts on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many others. This is a huge problem and now under the new IT Rules, the government of India wants to solve this problem.

Reportedly, under the new IT Rules, the Indian Government has asked the social media giants including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to delete all possible fake accounts within 24 hours of being notified about the same. These (fake) accounts would be those which are named after prominent personalities and businesses, and that which would mislead others.

New Social Media Rules:

If a person would use picture or name of any famous personality like a cricketer, actor, politician for his/her personal gains (such as an increase in likes, views, and followers), the account would be pulled down if the famous personality files a complaint against the account and its owner. Social media has to pull the account down within 24 hours as there is no other option.

An official told the media, “Provisions to this effect have been included in the new IT Rules for social media companies, and they have to take remedial action within a day after being notified by a user.”

There are ‘n’ numbers of fake accounts on social media and it is a good initiative by the government of India to clear all of them.
