Seoul: According to local media reports, two men were found dead and about 50 others injured on Tuesday morning as a fire broke out at a public bathhouse in the southeast of South Korea. Two men, estimated to be in their 60s, were found dead inside the bathhouse. About 50 others who had inhaled smoke were taken to nearby hospitals. One among the injured was in a critical condition.

The fire started at about 0711 hrs local time from the men's bathhouse which was on the fourth floor of a building in Daegu city, some 240 km southeast of the capital Seoul. The fire was put out in around 20 minutes, but smoke spread into other facilities of the seven-storey building. The seven-storey building is composed of restaurants on the first and second floors, bathhouses on the third and fourth floors and residential units on the fifth to seventh floors.

The flare is believed to have started at the entrance to the men's bathhouse. Investigation is underway to find out an exact cause.
