On November 29, 2024, Smt. Gurpreet Kaur Deo, IPS, Special DGP, Community Affairs Division (CAD) & Women Affairs, Punjab, visited Jalandhar to conduct a surprise inspection of the Women Police Station under the Commissionerate, Jalandhar.
During her visit, she reviewed the station's functioning, checked records and registers, and assessed the cleanliness of the police station and its surroundings. She issued clear directives for addressing public grievances effectively, maintaining proper documentation, and ensuring the station premises remain clean and green.
Key Highlights of the Inspection:
1. Inspection of Women Police Station:
• Conducted a thorough surprise check of the record registers.
• Evaluated cleanliness standards and emphasized maintaining a clean and eco-friendly environment at the police station.
• Instructed the staff to ensure the premises are well-maintained and presentable.
2. Review of Complaint Pendency:
The pendency of various complaints was assessed, including:
• Women Help Desk Complaints
• Public Grievances Division (PGD) Portal Complaints
• Complaints Registered at the Women Police Station
• Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO) Complaints
Special DGP reiterated the importance of addressing complaints promptly and ensuring that the police station remains a safe and approachable space for women.
3. Review of Punjab Police Mahila Mitra (PPMM) Program:
Special DGP, emphasized the pivotal role of Punjab Police Mahila Mitra (PPMM) officers in fostering trust and strengthening police-public relations. She issued clear instructions to all PPMM officers across police stations in the city, underscoring the following points:
• PPMM officers, who engage directly with women complainants at the grassroots level, must handle each case with utmost sensitivity, professionalism, and empathy.
• Women complainants should be treated with dignity, and their grievances must be addressed promptly and in accordance with the law.
• Timely justice and efficient resolution of cases should be prioritized to reinforce public confidence in the police department.
This directive aims to ensure that the PPMM initiative continues to bridge the gap between the police and the community, creating a safe and approachable environment for women seeking assistance.
4. Addressing Women Police Officers’ Concerns:
Special DGP also took the opportunity to listen to the concerns and challenges faced by women police officers during their duties. Key issues raised by the officers were discussed, and immediate solutions were provided wherever possible. One of the primary demands was the provision of computer peripherals to enhance their efficiency and workflow. Acknowledging the importance of this requirement, the Special DGP approved their request to ensure that the officers are better equipped to perform their responsibilities effectively.This proactive approach highlights the department's commitment to supporting its personnel and fostering a positive and productive work environment for women officers.
