Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Tuesday said that Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann would strengthen and promote sports culture across state thus paving a way to clinch more laurels at national as well international sports events by players of Punjab.
While felicitating the players proceeding to Doha to represent the country in Street Child World Cup from October 7 t0 15, the Sports Minister Meet Hayer said that it was a matter of great pride that the players of Youth Football Club (YFC) Rurka Kalan would be part of Street Child World Cup. He pointed out that the initiatives of YFC were really commendable, which shine the state and country in sports arena. He said the YFC model should be replicated in the other parts of the state with a view to securing more medals in national and international events.
Underlining the need to pay requisite attention to sports, which was missing in previous governments, the Sports Minister said that bringing Punjab at No.1 position in sports was one of the foremost priorities of Bhagwant Mann Government, which would certainly achieved with the cooperation of people and matchless talent of our players. He also announced a Sports Wing for Rurka Kalan having 65 residential and 40 day scholars besides a Multipurpose Sports Hall to further give a push to indoor games. The Minister said in each and every village sports activities would be focused at grassroots level so that the energy of youngsters could be channelized towards positivity to further get medals in different sports competitions.
Besides spending a few moments with the players going to Doha in ground, the Minister also honoured them and others for their outstanding performance in other activities. Certificates and medals were also gave away by the Minister to the team of Rurka Kalan in district level games of Khedan Vatan Punjab Diyan.
MLA Nakodar Inderjit Kaur Mann, YFC President Gurmangal Dass, Rurka Kalan Sarpanch Kulwinder Kaur Kauldhar, Padma Shri Kartar Singh Pehalwan and Principal Prem Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
