These much-anticipated breaks offer a welcome pause from the academic grind, allowing families to come together and celebrate Christmas and New Year amidst the cozy embrace of winter. With temperatures dropping across the country, several states have announced their winter vacation schedules for schools. Here’s a state-wise breakdown of the declared holidays. 

Delhi: 

In the national capital, the school will observe its winter break from January 1 to January 15, 2025. Additionally, all schools will remain closed on December 25 for Christmas. Authorities have indicated that these dates might be adjusted if extreme weather conditions arise. 

Uttar Pradesh: 

In Uttar Pradesh, winter vacations typically begin in the last week of December and extend into early January. While official confirmation is awaited, it is anticipated that schools will remain closed from December 25 to January 5, 2025, mirroring last year’s schedule. 

 Punjab  

The Punjab Education Department has officially announced winter vacation in the state. The school will remain closed from December 24 to December 31st, 2024. However, Officials have hinted at the possibility of extending the holidays if harsh weather conditions persist.  Considering the ongoing political conditions in the state for the farmer protest there may be certain extensions in the school holidays. 

Haryana 

Haryana is yet to finalize to dates for its school winter holidays. The state government is expected to announce the schedule soon, particularly in response to the predicted cold wave. Historically, schools in Haryana observe breaks from January 1 to January 15, and a similar timeline is expected this year 

Jammu and Kashmir

The Department of School Education in Jammu and Kashmir had declared winter holidays for schools in the Kashmir Valley and the winter zone of the Jammu division. For classes up to grade 5, schools are closed from December 10, while classes 6 to 12 observe a break starting December 16. Both groups will remain on vacation until February 28, 2025, ensuring the well-being of students during the harsh winter months.
