After being confronted by the locals, the 24-year-old streamer issued an apology. Somali kissed a statue symbolising Korean victims of wartime sexual slavery, known as the "comfort women," during his visit to Changdong History and Culture Park in Seoul. The statue represents the pain and suffering endured by these women under Japan's occupation during World War II.

On November 7, Somali apologised to 'all the people of South Korea' claiming he did not mean to hurt their pride. "I’m a young person, I want to grow as a man. I made a mistake, and I think when you make a mistake in life, you need to own up to it. So, I apologise, and I will no longer talk about your statue or touch it ever again," said Somali.
