Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced that based on everyone’s feedback, the Delhi government has decided to extend lockdown for another week till May 17, adding that there will be a stricter lockdown this time as metro services will also be suspended.
The lockdown will be on till 5 am on May 17.
The decision to extend the lockdown for another week has been taken after careful consultation with traders, women and youth, added the chief minister.
"During the lockdown, we utilised the time to enhance our healthcare infrastructure. The main issue in Delhi was oxygen shortage. With Centre's help, the condition is better now," he added.
The Capital city has been amongst the worst affected by the second wave of covid-19, suffering from a severe shortage of medical essentials required to fight the destructive second wave of Covid-19, while lack of oxygen, even in the hospitals have costed many lives, causing overburdening of crematoriums.
On oxygen shortage, the chief minister said that the situation of availability of life-saving gas has improved now and SOS calls, reports from hospitals running out of oxygen supply have also declined significantly.
While the positivity rate in Delhi has come down to 23 per cent from 35 per cent in the last two to three days, the situation still needs to be improved and taken under control, Kejriwal stated.
