A 21-year-old student allegedly committed suicide in West Bengal’s Nadia district for not being able to play PUBG, which the government had banned on Wednesday. Pritam Halder, an ITI student, was found hanging in his house in Purba Lalpur in Chakdaha police station area, police said on Sunday. According to Pritam’s mother Ratna, her son had gone to his room after having breakfast on Friday morning.
“When I went to call him for lunch, his room was locked from inside. After repeated knockings when he did not open the door, I called the neighbours. They broke into the room and found him hanging from the ceiling fan,” she told police
Ratna claimed that her son was apparently frustrated for not being able to play PUBG. “He would play it at night. I think he died by suicide as he was not being able to play PUBG,” she said.
PUBG Mobile was banned alongside 117 other chinese apps on wednesday as it violated datamining norms. According to the press release, the apps were blocked as they are “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, Defense of India and security of state and public order.” Police said they have registered a case of unnatural death.

The suicide for allegedly not being able to play PUBG Mobile after ban is one of the shocking cases amongst several others like killing, stealing and other suicide cases which took place prior to the ban. The game was beloved to a large number of people and it’s shutdown caused a lot of panic in the mobile gaming community.
In another incident, a teenager used more than two lakh amount from his grandfather's "pension account" for in-app purchases and his grandfather was not aware of that.
Furthermore, a 13-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence after her mother chided her for spending too much time chatting on her mobile phone. The incident took place in Kolkata in May.
