On Wednesday, Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has sought a probe by the senior Supreme Court Judge in the helicopter crash near Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor that involved the death of India’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat, his wife and other 11 army personnel.
Swamy has termed the incident as “shocking” and said that this incident raises a rigid question on India’s security.

“....final report has not come, so it is very difficult for me to say anything, but the mere fact that a military aircraft in a safe zone like Tamil Nadu, has blown up, it appears to be,” said Union Minister, according to PTI.

While talking to reporters in Udipi, Swamy said, “It is something that requires very very serious investigation... the public has to be taken into confidence, so somebody, a senior Supreme Court Judge, should investigate the matter.”

Reportedly, the military chopper crashed in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor on Wednesday, was heading to the Wellington defence establishment. As per the army officials, the copter crashed due to reduced visibility because of foggy weather.

14 passengers were on board the aircraft, including Bipin Rawat, his wife, the Defence Assistant, security commandos and IAF pilots.

General Bipin Rawat, a four-star general of the Indian Army, was the country's first and current Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). On December 30, 2019, he was appointed as the first tri-service chief and assumed office on January 1, 2020. He was the first sitting Chief of Army Staff to be appointed to the top post.
