Over a month after Delhi witnessed the darkest public health crisis, large crowds were seen at Delhi markets as the city unlocks. Markets and metro stations were crowded and people were seen breaking covid protocols such as social distancing and wearing masks.
Following the violation of covid norms, Delhi High Court warned that such breach of covid 19 protocols will only hasten the third wave of coronavirus pandemic. In a notice issued to the Centre and Delhi government, the court has asked authorities to take strict measures against violators and sensitise shopkeepers. HC is seeking a status report on the matter.
Just a couple of months earlier, Delhi was suffering through a major oxygen crisis during the peak of second wave due to which a large number of people lost their lives. There was shortage of hospital beds, medications, ventilators and vaccines and hospitals were running out of oxygen.

However, the number of coronavirus cases has declined, marking the end of second wave. But, with the relaxations and people not following covid appropriate behavior, the third wave is expected soon.
Earlier, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that a task force is being set up to track a possible third wave of coronavirus. ICU beds and medical supplies are also being prepared for the next possible crisis.
“We are preparing for the third wave of Covid29 pandemic, keeping in mind that 37,000 cases may be reported at its peak,” he added.
The Delhi government has allowed the shops, malls and restaurants to reopen on Monday. Weekly markets were also allowed to open with only 50 percent of vendors. Only one market per day will function in each municipal zone.
