In a disturbing development, a Youth was killed by Nihang Singh on Tuesday over the suspicion of sacrilege in Phagwara's Gurudwara Sahib. As soon as the accused locked himself inside the Chaura Khuh Gurudwara complex, senior police officers reached the spot and started investigating the case. Now, the youth's confession video has surfaced in which he gave his statement that he was paid to carry out sacrilege in Phagwara's Gurudwara Sahib. Notably, the same youth was killed by Nihang Singh over a sacrilege attempt.
In his confession video, "Sukhi told me that whatever I will do, I will do it myself. Sukhi paid me around 2 to 3 thousand rupees." The youth confessed that Sukhi told him to tear the pages of Guru Granth Sahib and also write derogatory words. However, the youth in his confession video stated that he did not do it.
Notably, the Police have started an investigation. However, it is yet to be known who is Sukhi, the person who paid the Youth to carry out sacrilege in the Gurudwara.
For the unversed, Sacrilege refers to the action of breaching or showing disrespect towards something regarded as sacred or holy. This can encompass the violation of religious sites, artifacts, or symbols, or engaging in conduct deemed offensive to a specific religious community. Punjab has witnessed multiple sacrilege cases over the years. Last year, protests broke out after a man allegedly hit two ‘granthis’ (Sikh priests) and desecrated the ‘Guru Granth Sahib’ at a gurdwara in Morinda town. The Punjab Police arrested the accused identified as Jasvir Singh.
