Amid
the political turmoil in Punjab, Deputy CM Punjab, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa
has confessed for the first time that he was the only name for the Punjab CM
after the ouster of Captain Amarinder Singh from the post. He was even given
congratulations messages but at the last moment things had changed and
Charanjit Singh Channi who sat next to him was chosen as the CM.
When
Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as Punjab Chief Minister, citing a political
disagreement with newly elected Congress Punjab Unit Head Navjot Singh Sidhu.
The
search for new CM started. Congress high
command wanted to make history's by making the first Hindu CM in Punjab. For this, Sunil Jakhar name popped up and he
was called back from Bangalore. Also,
Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ambika Soni who was supposed to be the first
choice for the CM post but she declined the offer.
During
the late-night meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, she said no and cited
consequences of a non-Sikh CM, ahead of the upcoming election.
Then
the talk of Sikh CM face started in the Punjab. In which Ambika Soni has played
the biggest role. Then Sukhjinder Randhawa name came to the fore. However, then Navjot Sidhu said that if a
Jatt Sikh has to be made the CM, then he would become the CM.
Taking
into consideration the tussle between the two leaders. The Congress high
command made Charanjit Channi the first Dalit CM in Punjab.
Meanwhile,
Sukhjinder Randhawa said on the question of becoming the Chief Minister in
future that if the fight of two top leaders end, only then the third will get a
chance. It seems, his statement is meant
for Navjot Sidhu and Charanjit Channi, who are constantly staking claim for the
CM face.
However,
in the recent virtual rally, Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress would announce
the CM face in Punjab after the due discussion with the party workers.
