India to attend OIC meet as observer for the first time ever

The MEA released a statement in which Sushma Swaraj was invited as a guest of honour in the OIC meeting.

India has been invited by UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to address the inaugural session of the 46th session of Council of Foreign Ministers of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in what is being called a testimony to India's growth in global diplomtic influence.

The MEA released a statement in which Sushma Swaraj was invited as a guest of honour in the OIC meeting.

''We see this invitation as a milestone in our comprehensive strategic partnership with the UAE and also as a welcome recognition of presence of 185 million Muslims in India, '' the statement said.
